Our rector, Hugo Lavados Montes, earned his degree in Business Administration from Universidad de Chile and a Master’s in Economics from Boston University, USA. He has extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, having held several high-profile positions throughout his career.
In particular, he served as Chile’s Minister of Economy from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, he was the Director of ProChile from 2000 to 2006 and the Superintendent of Securities and Insurance from 1990 to 1994.
Hugo Lavados Montes is also a prolific author, having written numerous publications and books on economics. In academia, he has had a distinguished tenure at Universidad San Sebastián, where he served as a professor and Dean of the Faculty of Economics before becoming Rector from 2014 to 2018.
