Renowned for its natural beauty and rich history, the Valdivia Campus is located in the capital of Los Ríos Region in southern Chile. This unique setting blends a stimulating academic environment with the tranquility of the surrounding nature. Known as the “Pearl of the South,” Valdivia is celebrated as one of the best cities to live in and visit, reinforcing its reputation as a university city for more than 50 years.
The Valdivia Campus hosts around 3,500 undergraduate students across 13 programs, 11 of which focus on health sciences. It is home to a diverse range of Schools, including Law and Government, Education Sciences, Health Sciences, Health Care Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, Engineering and Technology, Medicine and Science, Dentistry, and Psychology.
Spanning 17,155 square meters, this modern campus features state-of-the-art facilities such as a Clinical Simulation Center, a University Health Center, and a University Dental Clinic. Additionally, it also includes a spacious auditorium for conferences and events, various laboratories, a library, and sports facilities – all designed to give students a well-rounded educational experience.
Valdivia Campus stands out for its commitment to academic excellence and research. Through its partnership with the Center for Scientific Studies, the campus supports scientific research across various disciplines, offering students opportunities to collaborate with renowned scientists.
Sports, cultural, and outreach activities are integral to life at USS Valdivia. Campus teams for volleyball, basketball, rowing, and soccer — both men’s and women’s – compete in university leagues like UNISUR. Students also have free access to recreational and fitness activities, including taekwondo, Zumba, aerobics, salsa, and yoga, contributing to a vibrant social scene.
The Valdivia Campus is deeply engaged with the local community. One notable initiative is the “Valdivia, a Friendly City for the Elderly” program, a collaboration between the Municipality of Valdivia, the Oportunidad Mayor Foundation, and USS. This program aims to certify Valdivia as an age-friendly city, following standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Additionally, the campus is home to the First Center for Cervantine Studies in the South of Chile, part of the Faculty of Education. Located in the historic Hubach House, this center serves as a meeting place for researchers, academics, artists, and the general public, dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
